Deciding which design to use
We all disagreed with using the two photographs where she has been photoshopped and merged into a natural scene as it's too busy and there is too many colours.
As a group we all decided to use the design with the black italic writing. This is because it's simple but works well with our style.
Deciding what writing we will include:
- Main heading (the name of the band)
- Announce tour dates
- A link to a website with more information
- Date of the digi pack release
- The main song
Photograph we have chosen for our advert
This is the photograph we have chosen to appear on our magazine advert. We chose this because we have dressed her white dress which relates to what she wore in the video, we have styled her hair in a similar way except slightly curlier and we feel that the simplicity and the slight glamour works well.
We did like the photographs of her dressed in a denim jacket with a hat, however we decided these pictures would be more suitable to publish with an interview as they show her personality and not her character.
Deciding our style
- Use a scruffy distressed style
- Create a vintage look to relate to the other products
- Use a photograph of her looking made up and glamerous
- Use a delicate but dark writing
Ancillary Task 2 - Magazine Advert
Picture
- Use the same picture as the digi pack
- Use a different picture with the same style e.g. layered
- Use a picture of a natural landscape not the actress
- Use a picture of her in the original dress and shirt she filmed in
- Use a casual picture of her to relate to the audience with
Writing
- Use an italic font
- Use a delicate faint font
- Use a bold font
- Use natural colours e.g. pastel colours like peach
- Use a black font to make it stand out
Style
- Create a vintage style to relate to the previous products
- Create a modern style to stand out and create something different that will attract other members of the public
- Create a scruffy, distressed look
- Have a neat design
Finished Digi Pack

Here is our completed digi pack.
For the front cover we have layered a photograph of our actress' face over the sop of a patch of flowers, this creates a link between her holding flowers and being merged together with them, this also gives me the feeling there is a connection between her and nature which we have tried to convey in our video.
We felt by keeping the back page simple it would appear more effective, which I think has worked very well.
For the two middle surfaces we decided we would make a collage of vintage objects mixed with natural scenery. I feel this works really well because there is a mixture of patterns, textures, shapes and colours which all work well together. We decided to make the collage with ripped paper to create the distressed look.
Overall we are very happy with the outcome of our product and I feel it would be suitable for mass production. Each indevidual collage in the insert will not be hand made it will be copied and mass printed.
Feedback for digi pack from the class
These are the comments we recieved:
- The front cover is a really nice picture, however it looks a little bit pixelated
- I like how you have layered the picture of her face over a picture of some flowers
- This has a very vintage feel to it, I love the music notes on the back page as this makes a relevant link to the product
- The colours are all very earthy colours like browns, reds and creams which fits with the video and style of the music
- I don't like the blank strip of white next to the music notes I feel it looks unfnished
- I like the blank strip as it makes it look distressed which really fits into the on going style you are creating
We have now considered the likes and dislikes of this product and we will consider some of these comments when finishing our product. We have found these comments very helpful.

First draft for the digi pack
We had to present our first draft of our digi pack to our media class and tutor Mrs Allison to get feedback and constructive critisism. Finalised ideas for digi pack
The front cover will have a picture of the singer/actress. However this picture will be slightly faded to give it a vintage look.
The insert will have a collage of natural pictures mixed with vintage objects such as brid cages and clocks.
The back cover will have music notes on it. We will make these music notes look vintage and slightly dirty and used.
We will now start to make these.
Digi Pack ideas
- Picture of actress/ singer on cover
- Natural scenery pictue on cover
- Music notes (vintage, old, stained?)
- Collage of vintage pictures
- Collage of natural pictures
- List the songs on the back cover
- Have an insert with pictures or lyrics
- Minimal front cover (plain, simple)
- Natural colours e.g. greens, browns, earthy reds
Focus Group
This will be very important for my project because it means I will be able to gather constructive critisism about the video and use it to make my production more successful.
The six people I have invited are all between the ages of 15 and 25. I have invited four females and two males.
Focus group plan:
- Brief them on what they will be doing
- Show them the final cut
- Ask them the prepared questions
- Give them paper to write their own feedback on
- Go through each and discuss with the group and find conclusions
I have prepared some questions I would like to ask them about the production. These include:
- Was the story clear to you?
- What did you enjoy most about it?
- What did you enjoy least about it?
- Do you feel this was relevant to you? Why? e.g. the style, lyrics etc.
- Would you download this if it was available on I-Tunes?
Record label

The record label is now very rock orientated and has signed many well known artists, these include:
Jessie J
Queen
Jonathan Jeremiah
and Let England Shake
These artist are all indie rock artist which shows us the record company are very keen to sign this genre of artists/bands.
target audience

To make this connection we have used a teenage acress who is 17 years old so the younger audience can make a connection and we have dressed her in an indie/boho-chic style so people can relate the way they dress with our music viedo.
Here are some examples of what our target audience will dress like and what age they will be:

18th March Last day of filming
We wanted to find a shot that suited the ones before and after so we decided to use leaves as a prop.
We threw a handful of leaves off a bridge in Hertham that we have used many times in our video. We then uploaded it and decided it looked quite plain and boring so we decided to reverse this shot to make it look like the leaves are being picked up off the water by the wind and back towards the camera. I think this shot gives the video a magical effect.

Almost finished
The majority of the class liked it however our tutor Mrs Allison told us how she disliked one of our night time shots.
In this shot we are panning left to right over a field with a small house in the background. However the shot was too dark which meant it wasn't an interesting shot as we could not see anything.
We have decided we will do some extra filming to find a suitable shot to replace this one.
Permission from the artist
This what i sent her in October.
Wednesday 6th October 2010
Dear Florence Welch,
My name is Megan Saxton and i am a great fan of your music.
I am currently studying A Level Media and am writing on behalf of myself and two of my fellow students to ask for your permission to use your song 'The Dog Day Are Over' in a production we are currently working on. Our production includes finding a song, producing and making a music video for it.
I can ensure you the video will not be made public and we will not make any kind of profit from it. We will also not use any video material that you have originally created.
Many thanks in anticipation.
Yours sincerely,
Myself, Megan Saxton and my team mates Emily Thomas and Sam Walton.
